John Gross, PhD

Gross
Professor
I am interested in protein structure and dynamics related to gene expression. We study changes in protein structure that occur on time scales ranging from millions of years to a millionth of a second, with a focus on basic questions of how viruses cross-species and give rise to modern pandemics or how enzyme function is fine-tuned by cellular cues. Research in this area guides development of therapeutics for infectious disease and cancer.

Robin Corelli, PharmD

Corelli
Vice Dean & Professor

As vice dean of academic affairs, I represent the dean’s office and provide guidance, assessment, and action on all issues related to policies and procedures for academic affairs. This includes leading the School of Pharmacy’s Office of Academic Affairs; review of appointments for faculty and non-faculty academics; evaluation of appraisal, advancement and promotion packets; analysis and advising on issues related to faculty compensation, benefits and outside professional activities; providing consultative support for faculty and department chairs on the appeals and problem-resolution processes relating to academic personnel issues; and representing the School of Pharmacy in school, campus and system-wide discussions related to academic affairs and academic policy issues.

I am also a professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and a licensed practicing pharmacist. My research and practice efforts have been focused on the community pharmacist’s role in the areas of asthma, COPD, tobacco cessation, immunization delivery, and medication therapy management.

Crystal Zhou, PharmD

Zhou
Associate Professor

I am a passionate pharmacy educator and clinician. I currently teach and direct a couple of the first year Applied Patient Care Skills courses and work as a clinical pharmacist for the Division of Cardiology. I am also working on implementing innovative models of pharmacy practice, such as treating hypertension in barbershops in the Bay Area, and hope to include our students in these efforts.

Desiree Khu

Khu
Research Liaison

I provide administrative and logistics support for Dr. Shuvo Roy and his Biodesign lab. I am program coordinator for the Master of Translational Medicine Program (MTM) a joint graduate program between the University of California, San Francisco and University of California, Berkeley. I manage communications for The Kidney Project, a national research project with the goal to create a surgically implanted bioartificial kidney to treat kidney failure.

Liusheng Huang, PhD

Co-Dir, Drug Research Unit

As codirector of the Drug Research Unit (DRU), I bring nearly 20 years experience in analytical development and focus on development of novel methods for some of the most critical but understudied drugs in the world, such as drugs for malaria. My research interest is in optimizing these methods so we can quantitate drugs as close to the site of pharmacological action as is possible with the overarching goal of treating patients with the best drug regimens. Administratively, I oversee analytical work at the DRU and core activities that support our UCSF collaborators for a variety of research projects and facilitate identifying new collaborations.

Su Guo, PhD

Guo
Professor

I am interested in how genes regulate brain development and behavior and ultimately impact neuropsychiatric disorders.

As director of the Center for Collaborative Innovation, I lead efforts to increase collaboration between clinical, translational, and discovery science in teaching and research.

Michael Grabe, PhD

Grabe
Professor

My lab uses computational methods to understand biological phenomena. We are primarily interested in ion transport across cellular membranes. We wish to understand the molecular workings of ion channels and transporters as well as how these proteins work together to regulate ion homeostasis in excitable cells and intracellular organelles such as the lysosome. We are also interested in the role that membrane proteins play in controlling the intrinsic shape of organelles.

Joel W. Gonzales

Admissions Director

As a member of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), I oversee PharmD admissions, coordinate the activities of the Admissions Committee, and manage the annual selection of entering pharmacy students. I am involved in all aspects of recruitment and outreach for the UCSF School of Pharmacy and speak with prospective students regularly. Through my blog Reports from the Pharm, I share information about admissions and stories of interest to prospective students.

Christina Chen

chen
Post Award Analyst

I provide accounting and post-award support for BTS PIs, including Drs. Kathy Giacomini, Adam Abate, Sourav Bandyopadhyay, Les Benet, Ryan Hernandez, Shuvo Roy, and Seth Shipman. I also support CERSI (UCSF-Stanford Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation).

Valerie Clinard, PharmD

Associate Dean and Professor

As associate dean of experiential education and professional development, I oversee the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) programs. I work with preceptors, students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement new experiential education opportunities that continue to meet the needs of the expanding role of pharmacists. In addition, I work with the program directors to provide preceptor development and to ensure that preceptors, practice sites, and students benefit from the relationships and opportunities provided.
