Xiaokun Shu, PhD, has received tenure as a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Xiaokun is a physicist whose research is aimed at developing new technologies, such as spectroscopic probes and imaging techniques, to map and understand the processes of protein-protein interactions. His research group is focused on applying physics, chemistry and engineering to develop biological tools, and applying these tools to solve biological questions. He holds a joint appointment with the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI).

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in physics from Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, he went on to obtain a master’s degree in physics before earning a PhD in biophysics from the University of Oregon.

Xiaokun has reached a high level of research productivity and visibility in his short time at UCSF.His teaching, research, and public service are recognized and applauded by the department. His professional growth and progress make him deserving of his advancement, and the department congratulates him on this important promotion.
