Danica Galonić Fujimori receives tenure
Danica Galonić Fujimori, PhD, has received tenure and advanced to the position of associate professor. She holds a joint appointment with the Departments of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology. Fujimori’s research is centered on the enzymology and cellular roles of post-translational methylation.
After earning her BS in chemistry in Serbia and a PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, she was a postdoctoral scholar at Harvard Medical School. She joined the School of Pharmacy faculty in 2008.
Fujimori’s work on RlmN and Cfr represents the first in vitro reconstitution of activity in Class A Radical SAM methylating enzymes. She and her group demonstrated that these enzymes have evolved a new mechanism of methylation to enable modification of electrophilic carbon centers.
The department and the School offer sincere congratulations to Fujimori on this important milestone.
