Kearney named interim dean of UCSF School of Pharmacy

Thomas Kearney, PharmD, was named interim dean of the UCSF School of Pharmacy and took the reins of the School from outgoing Dean B. Joseph Guglielmo, PharmD, as of January 4.

Kearney is a world-renowned expert in clinical toxicology and a graduate of the UCSF School of Pharmacy. He most recently served as the School’s Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, as well as Clinical Toxicology Consultant for the San Francisco Division of the California Poison Control System, before retiring on July 1, 2020.

In his email to the UCSF community announcing the appointment, Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS, praised Kearney’s distinguished career at UCSF as a toxicologist, poison control specialist, and long-standing member of the School’s leadership team, experience that would be “invaluable in leading the School during this interim period.”

The search for the School’s next dean, led by School of Dentistry Dean Michael Reddy, DMD, DMSc, is ongoing.
