UCSF Library

Search Medline, etc.

FDA

The Food and Drug Administration web site.

IUPAC Nomenclature of Organic Chemistry

Everything you wanted to know (and more) about naming organic compounds. Great for review, etc.

Protein Visualization

This is a nice site that explains the uses of rasmol and chime. For a quicker way to get to the download page for rasmol, go to the next link.

Rasmol download site

Go here to download the appropriate version of rasmol/rasmac for your system.

Entrez

Use this site to search for 3D structures pdb files. Here's a detailed list of instructions on what to do when you get there: 1. Click 3D Structures 2. Type in Progesterone Receptor Progesterone (in the search engine) 3. Retrieve Documents (It should say there are 2 that fit this search.) 4. Click 1A28 5. Click Structure Summary 6. Select these three options below: save file, RasMol, All Atom Model 7. Click the save structure button 8. Your computer will prompt you for a name for the file, call it 1a28.pdb. It needs to be .pdb for RasMol to recognize it. Now you've downloaded the file.

The RCSB Protein Data Bank (PDB)

This is an alternate site for accessing pdb files. Researchers deposit their coordinates here directly. The site is self-explanatory.
